Love Versus Infatuation

Between Love and Infatuation

Some would hold that the difference between love and infatuation is that love lasts but infatuation does not. This is incorrect, I think, for a number of reasons. First, if there were no other difference between love and infatuation, it would make it impossible to tell whether any given relationship was a love relationship or an infatuation relationship until some time in the future when people could look back and say whether the relationship lasted or not. Hence, no one could ever accurately say something like "those newly-weds certainly love each other" no matter how wonderful or fulfilling their relationship at the time; it could only be said on their 25th or 50th anniversary that "well, no one knew at the time, but those two certainly were in love when they married." And if either or both died young, no one could tell whether they were in love or just infatuated or not -- or by unamended definition, since the state did not last, though involuntarily, it was not love. But none of this really is in keeping with common usage. We do make distinctions between love relationships and infatuation relationships that are new or that exist now without feeling the need to wait for the passage of (more) time.

Bringing it Into Reality

Infatuation can even be thought of as love with only 2 dimensions. With love, that third dimension is reality. So, it is actually your ability to tell what is real in a relationship, versus what is imagined. You love being part of a couple, but is this the person you want to be in a couple with?

Look at the reality of who this person is, not who she/he wants to be. Do you always interact over dinner and drinks? Meet under different circumstances. Become part of each other’s lives. If that is not happening, why not? Are you spending and enjoying time together? What happens when you’re apart? Are you sure?

Trying to differentiate your love interest from your lust interest is requires a level head and the courage to face the unpleasant. It also requires maturity and the ability to take a step back and survey the big picture. The result is more control and confidence as you stride your way in love’s direction.

About I Ching:

       The I-Ching, or "Book of Changes," is an ancient Chinese oracle
 book that deals with philosophy and divination. Inquiring souls pose a 
question to the oracle in the hopes of receiving an answer. Simply put, 
the tossing of coins helps you form a group of lines(trigrams and 
hexagrams) that lead to a better understanding of one's present and 
future situation. Trigrams are a series of three lines (either solid or 
broken lines) while hexagrams are comprised of six. Once a pattern of 
lines is formed, the oracle book is consulted for answers to the 
question posed to it.

Dating to the Chou dynasty (1100 BC), the I-Ching was heavily influenced by Confucius, who used his considerable scholarly abilities to help form the Ten Wings -- the commentary that offers explanations of the hexagrams. Later scholars melded principles of astronomy and astrology (the five elements and the twelve zodiacal characters) into the I-Ching. Known as "The Book of Changes" to Westerners, the resulting oracle book is a comprehensive text covering ideas, images and natural laws that can provide answers to specific questions.

In the I-Ching, the hexagrams used for the purpose of obtaining answers are formed by the tossing of coins. Using three like coins (say, quarters), each side is arbitrarily pegged as either yin or yang. For example, "heads" might be yin while "tails" is yang. In this scenario, "heads" would be assigned a value of three while "tails" counts as two. Center yourself, be calm and ask a specific question of the oracle. Follow this by shaking and then tossing the coins. As they land yin or yang, total the value of the three coins and jot down that number (the only possible sums are six, seven, eight or nine). Toss the coins a total of six times and note each corresponding value.

These values will dictate whether each line drawn is a solid or broken line, and the lines are always drawn from the bottom up. Two trigrams (sets of three lines) will be combined to form a hexagram (the six-lined figure). At this point, you need to consult the I-Ching's text for commentary on the specific figure drawn to determine the answer to your question. There are a total of 64 possible hexagrams in the I-Ching.

Experience certainly counts when using the I-Ching. It will take some time to master the variations of the lines, but it will take much longer to feel comfortable with what the oracle book is trying to say. Vague questions are not likely to be addressed by the oracle. Specificity, such as "Is X business the right one for me?" or "Will a trip to Paris be fortuitous?", is generally rewarded with an answer.

The text of the I-Ching deserves careful study by interested practitioners. While this methodology may seem a bit esoteric to Westerners, it is revered by educated men and women of the East. A comprehensive book on the I-Ching is key to reaping the benefits of this age-old art.

        Let's go way back to my old life. Back to where I used to have a low-paying job and d*mn I really regret working there. I wasted a lot of time there. We actually do nothing but wait for customers, wave and play on-line games. And my favorite is "neopets" from neopets.com. (I am encouraging you to try making an account and start playing it. It’s like the old gadget game, “tamagotchi”, you will also have a pet there maximum of four and make them grow, stronger, richer and famous...etc. And the rest is in your hands. Go make your move and find more about it.)

        It is actually a kid's game but a lot of teenagers and grown-ups play this game. Though it's not popular here in Philippines and I don't know why. I used to play these, the whole time while I am working. It helps me keep myself awake the whole night ‘til morning. Let us say that, I did get addicted with this game. It’s so much fun and there’s a lot to learn from it. It is also educational, because it helps you exercise your Web design skills from designing our own guild designs, userlook-ups, pet look-ups and shop look-ups. There are lots of things you do in there aside from that. You can have a tour in the whole world of neopet's world, there’s a lot of tour spots in there; go shopping around the world; trials, quizzes and missions or in other words “quests” from faeries; there’s even secret passage ways to discover; healing springs; jobs (well, it’s hard to get a job there just like in the real world especially If you don’t have job coupon but you can work for it, though.); and whole lot of games and you can choose games whether you like action, puzzles or gamble with luck games.

        In some reason, I stopped playing “neopets”. I had to study about things and have to do something productive for myself. It’s been quite a while and I did miss playing it. And today, I had the chance to play it again. And dude it was fun!

For the people who don't know about "neopets", here are some more info:

        A generation agrees. Neopets has a staggering 25 million members worldwide. It has been translated into 10 languages and gets more than 2.2 billion page views per month. These dedicated Neopians spend an average of 6 hours and 15 minutes per week on the site. (But not fror me because I used to stay that long everyday.) That makes Neopets the second-stickiest site on the Internet - ahead of Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, and eBay, according to Media Metrix. What's more, its demographics are the stuff of marketers' dreams: Four out of five Neopians are under age 18, and two out of five are under 13.

        It's these numbers that have captured everyone's attention - Madison Avenue, Hollywood, and toy companies, all desperately trying to grab younger and younger audiences. The Neopets characters now appear as stuffed animals and action figures and on board games and trading cards. Warner Bros. is developing a Neopets feature film. A Play Station 2 version hit the market in October, and a PSP version is due out next year. And then there's perhaps the biggest deal of all: In June, Via com - which owns CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, and Paramount Pictures - bought Neopets for $160 million. I'm having fun taking a lot of quizzes from QuizGalaxy until this question showed up! I got really curious and hoping that it might give something good that could inspire me or something. Funny, because we call our new friend as global warming because of the changes she brought to us. I felt left out since she came because envy her for the time and attention 'The Stranger' is giving her. I could consider that as the effect.
